This topic provides information on setting up AuthIDs, Groups, and Privileges. In addition, access to the XDB Server can be limited using the Governor features.
The AuthID is used for identification and security purposes when you access an XDB Server, utilities, and database objects. Passwords provide additional access security. Groups enable XDB Server Administrators to easily grant privileges to subsets of the user population who have similar needs. The Governor is used to invoke special access limitations.
System security can be complex. A complete discussion of the inter-relationships of the various security options is provided in "Security and Authority." You should be familiar with that information before setting up system security, AuthIDs, groups, authorities, and privileges.
Information you enter using the Admin menu commands is transformed into standard SQL UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE statements that are sent to the XDB Server for execution against the appropriate system tables. Other security measures can be activated through the use of the SQL GRANT and REVOKE commands.
