The first step when importing a file into an XDB Server table is to choose a source file and specify the format of that source
file. Some source file formats require you to specify additional parameters. The following steps are required when importing
most source file types.
To specify a source file:
- Choose a format that reflects the type of file you want to import from the drop-down list.
- Specify the format items required for the selected format. As you choose different formats, the requirements displayed in
the
Source File Information section vary.
- Click the
Browse button in the
Source File Information section to display the Open Import dialog box. Use the
List Files Of Type drop-down list to select the type of files to display.
- Choose the path and name of a source file. The default path is the application path. Click
OK.
SQLWizard examines the source file, creates a suggested table definition for the table (if not DSNTIAUL) and displays it in
the
XDB Table Information section of the window.
Note:
If importing large files, use the Options command from the
Import menu to limit the number of records that will be read to determine the suggested table definition.
- At this point, you have two options for the destination of your imported data.
- You can specify an existing XDB Server table as the destination for your data. In this case, you can choose to overwrite
or append the import data.
- You can create a new table to receive the imported data. You can use the suggested table format or modify the format as desired.
