What You Can Do in a Stored Procedure

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

A stored procedure is similar to any other SQL application.

The following restrictions apply to stored procedures:

Both C and COBOL stored procedures must be dynamic link library (DLL) files. See the appropriate language documentation for further information.
The XDB Server returns an SQL error code when a location other than the current location is used in an alias or three part name.
Do not include these SQL statements in your stored procedure:
- COMMIT
- SET CURRENT SQLID
When these statements are encountered, it places the thread in a must roll back state. When control returns to the calling program, it must do one of the following things:
- Execute the ROLLBACK statement, so that it is free to execute other SQL statements after rollback is complete.
- Terminate, causing an automatic rollback of the unit of work.
