Assembler Compiler Directives

You can specify Assembler compiler directives on the command line when building from the command line, or in your project properties when building from the IDE.

Note: Take care when setting compiler directives in the Additional Directives field on the Assembler tab of your project properties Assembler page as these could conflict with a default setting.

AAT
Generate Assembler Analysis Tool (AAT) outputs; used to determine required macro and copybook files, all external references to called modules, all SVCs, MNOTEs generated, etc.
ALLOW
Suppress error and warning messages.
AMODE
Set the memory address type.
ANIM
Generate .idf and .idx files required to debug an Assembler module during execution.
ASCII
Defines all DC C'...' variables using ASCII instead of EBCDIC characters.
ASM
Perform a complete compilation, that is, both pre-process macros and assemble the resulting .bal file, producing an .obj file.
BAL
Create a source file (.bal) in the load library; this file contains the output from the macro pre-process stage of compilation.
BALLIST
Create a listing file of the .bal file that shows each macro call and the relative byte address of each expanded macro instruction.
BALWTO
Create a listing file of the .bal file that shows each macro call and the relative byte address of each expanded macro instruction, and display each line on the Output Window. Also reduces the output buffer for the .mop file to 1,000 bytes to ensure that the .mop file and the current screen between them supply a complete record of the pre-process phase in the event of a failure.
CACHE
Cache all access to the virtual files used during compilation. The cache is a pool of 4 kilobyte (Kb) buffers with least recently used replacement.
CALL
Attempt to automatically resolve any remaining external references by repeatedly searching the load library for .obj files matching external names.
CICS
Enables the use of the EXEC CICS preprocessor to convert the CICS commands you supply into calls to the CICS command-level API.
COMPATM
Force all macro parameters not in quotes to be upper case for compatibility with the previous Micro Focus Assembler product, MF370.
COMPATS
Treat all sublists in macro parameters as character strings for compatibility with the previous Micro Focus Assembler product, MF370.
EID2
Generate two-byte external symbol ids in object code. If you specify NOEID2, one-byte external symbol ids are generated; this format is compatible with versions of the previous Micro Focus Assembler product, MF370, before 4.0.06.
EPILOG
Insert DFHEIRET macro in the EXEC CICS code.
ESD
Include external symbol directory (ESD) records in .370 files.
LINK
Create a .390 file when compilation is complete, by linking in all other modules called by the main module.
LIST
Create a compilation listing in filename.prn in the output library.
LISTCALL
Include macro call statements with parameters in the .bal file.
LISTPARM
Create a trace of all macro parameters and their values (including all nested macro calls).
MACLIST
Create a macro listing in filename.prn in the output library.
MCALLS
Execute called macros during macro pre-process stage.
MOPLIST
Create a detailed macro execution trace file showing each line of code executed with the name of the macro, the relative byte address, the opcode, the current variable name or macro sequence symbol name, and the current seta, setb, and setc values. The listing file has the extension .mop.
MOPWTO
In addition to the functionality of MOPLIST, MOPWTO displays each line in the Output Window. It also reduces the output buffer for the .mop file to 1,000 bytes to ensure that the .mop file and the current screen between them supply a complete record of the pre-process phase in the event of a failure.
MPC
Determines the level of macro processing.
MPCGEN
Recreate new .mpc files containing compiled macro code replacing previous versions if any.
MPCLIST
List generated macro code after each macro source line during macro pre-process phase.
OBJ370
Generate mainframe-compatible sequential fixed-block object code file, filename.370, in the load library.
OBJECT
Generate object code in either filename.obj (default) or filename.370 format depending on current OBJ370 setting.
OMF
Specifies the type of output - load module or CICS data table.
OPT
Make an extra pass of macro object code to resolve references to addresses.
OLDCICS
Specify the level of the CICS preprocessor to use.
PLISTUB
Generate a PLI stub program in the source directory for each entry point in the Assembler module being compiled.
PROLOG
Insert DFHEIENT, DFHEIEND, and DFHEISTG macros in the EXEC CICS code. You can set this directive only if you have set the CICS directive.
RENT
Mark module as re-entrant; this prevents reloading of the module each time it is called.
REUS
Mark load module as serially reusable; this prevents reloading of the module each time it is called.
RLD
Generate relocation records for relocatable address constants in the object code file filename.obj.
RMODE
Specify a residence mode for the load module.
STATIC
Generate code from macro statements with no symbolic parameters without parsing them for parameter substitution.
SYSPARM
Define string to be substituted in macros for the variable symbol &SYSPARM.
TOTALS
Write totals to syslist.wto showing internal statistics on macro compiles, symbol table lookups, external symbols, literals, physical file input/output, virtual file input/output, memory usage, etc.
TRACE
Generate trace of events during compilation in syslist.wto
UFUNC
Specify how to handle unsupported CICS functions.
UOPT
Specify how to handle unsupported CICS options.
VSECOMP
Set a macro variable that allows the Enterprise Developer Assembler implementation to correctly interpret DOS/VSE macro operands where these differ from their MVS counterparts.
XMAC
Include a cross-reference listing in filename.prn for all macros and copybooks showing the relative line numbers of the generated statements.
XREF
Include a cross-reference listing in filename.prn for all labels and literals showing the relative line numbers of the generated statements.
XSVC
Include an entry for each SVC in the module in filename.prn in a cross-reference table that shows the relative line numbers of all the statements that reference that SVC.
