Micro Focus Launches Enterprise View 5.7

—Micro Focus widens flagship Application Portfolio Management (APM) solution, enriching data capture and improving decision-making for CIOs

NEWBURY, England, January  28, 2009 — Micro Focus® (LSE.MCRO.L), the leading provider of enterprise application management and modernisation solutions, has today launched Enterprise View 5.7, the latest addition to its Application Portfolio Management (APM) solution to empower CIOs with the knowledge required to make informed and accurate IT strategy decisions; in whatever market condition.

Enterprise View 5.7 helps enterprise customers to make significantly better decisions about the management of their IT assets by consolidating business and technical intelligence across the organisation’s entire portfolio of applications. CIOs are faced with a multitude of challenges every day, but now more than ever, cutting costs and operational efficiency are firmly at the top of the agenda. However, demand for cost savings does not have to mean automatic cuts in resource and IT projects. The pressure is on to deliver more with less, and CIOs simply cannot afford to make the wrong decisions in today’s market. They also need to be able to justify these decisions with hard facts. Enterprise View 5.7 enables CIOs to analyse their entire portfolio to identify where value lies in their existing systems, helping them decide how best to develop their IT to further the business.

Enterprise View 5.7 is suited to the specific challenges facing organisations in a recession. IT optimisation, governance & compliance, cost reduction programmes, managing forced M&As etc. are all challenges on the rise for many organisations right now, and Enterprise View 5.7 gives CIOs the tool to meet these challenges head on through key enhancements. The most significant enhancements have been made to the Application Value Manager and Enterprise View Portal capabilities. These provide streamlined and cost effective management of stakeholder (business) details, and low-cost, fully adaptable business/technical reporting respectively.

“Managing IT assets more cost-effectively is a priority for many businesses in 2009, and we are delighted to bring Enterprise View 5.7 to the market,” said Stuart McGill, Chief Technology Officer, Micro Focus. “Application Portfolio Management (APM) is ‘a management process for ensuring IT application assets produce the best returns’. Leaders have a responsibility to get the most from their business assets, but extracting the most value at least cost from IT is a particular focus for CIOs this year. CFOs are focusing squarely on the bottom line and Enterprise View 5.7 gives CIOs the insight and backup they need to deliver in the boardroom,” concludes McGill.

Steve Steuart, Senior Vice President of IDEA Integration, a Micro Focus partner says of the enhancements, “As a provider of management and modernization services to IT organizations, IDEA Integration always looks to provide unique customer value through its use of market-leading technology and services. We see Micro Focus’ Enterprise View as a key part of our Application Portfolio Management service. Their latest release provides further business value management capabilities that streamline this process for our clients even further.”

A recent Forrester Research report, Application Development Pros: Must-Read Research In Any Economic Downturn, highlights the importance for organisations to fully understand their applications in today’s difficult economic conditions: “In a constrained economic climate, working efficiently is a necessity, not a luxury. Application development professionals always seek faster application development. But faster development for obsolete or duplicate applications wastes resources. It is time to acknowledge the elephant in the room: obsolescence that has been ignored for decades. It is time to take steps to streamline the existing application portfolio and free resources for more innovative work.”
